About Us

This page touches on some of the philosophy and history of Photoblogs.org. If you're looking for more specific information on how to use this site, the Help, FAQ, and Wiki page should point you in some good directions.

Our Mission

The mission of Photoblogs.org is to connect the audience to the photoblog, and to help the photoblogging community grow and evolve.

Background

This site started on Sunday, October 27th, 2002 as a simple list of 15 photoblogs. The site allowed anyone to add a new photoblog to the list... Several people did. Now there are 29,914 sites listed and Photoblogs.org has been mentioned in publications such as The New York Times, Time Magazine, The Washington Post, and slate.msn.com.

So far Photoblogs.org has gone through two major revisions where the entire site was dramatically redesigned. The first rebuild was launched on October 27th, 2003 and the second on April 2nd, 2006. This site is a perpetual work in process that is guided by the feedback of our users.

Credits

  • L. Brandon Stone - Created Photoblogs.org and programmed nearly all of the PHP, SQL, XHTML, CSS, and Javascript. He works on this site in his spare time, because he loves photography and blogging.
  • Miles Storey - Our "Head Blog Guy." In addition to keeping our blog content flowing, he's in charge of recruiting new blog editors and ends up handling various press inquiries.
  • Nathan Hendler - Is a hacker and musician who has taught Brandon all sorts of things. He also wrote some of the program code.
  • Geoff Stearns - Helps with usability, design, and debugging. Most of his constructive criticism contains the words: "for me to poop on."
  • Desi Aragon - Helps us with all kinds of graphic design work. Desi rocks.

Special Thanks

Brandon would like to thank those who have helped and encouraged him over the years, including: Ashleigh Stone, Nathan Hendler, Peter Holland, Desi Aragon, Matt Berg, Sean Brown, Chad Davis, Nathan Deahl, Kevin Harper, Hue Henry, Dan Niederkruger, Geoff Stearns, Ben Todd, and Monte Workman. He would also like to thank the great people over at Yayhooray for all their help with various random things.

Photoblogs.org Soundtrack

The bulk of the code for Photoblogs.org was written by Brandon while listening to the following music. (Sometimes music is as important as caffeine during long bouts of coding.)
